Description: This lavishly illustrated series provides readers ages 12 and up with a comprehensive introduction to one of the most fascinating cultures of the ancient world. Each title focuses on specific aspects of life in ancient Greece, and offers vivid close-ups of its art and architecture, history, literature, government, religion and mythology, warfare, and more.

Designed to complement the national curricula in English Language Arts, World History, Social Studies, and Art, the Inside Ancient Greece Series is an inviting portal to some of history's greatest treasures. Each easy-to-read book is written by a specialist on the history of ancient Greece, and covers not only the latest knowledge of that civilization, but also the primary evidence on which it is based, including written documents, artifacts, and archaeological material.

Primary source material includes speeches from ancient rulers and orators, as well as excerpts from poets, philosophers, and historians. Detailed full-color and black-and-white art and photographs throughout the text illustrate ancient marvels, architectural monuments, and historic events. Each volume includes an introduction, followed by a detailed map of the ancient Greek world marking key locations specific to the book's topic. Summaries of key information are provided at relevant points in each book, and feature spreads and sidebars display important themes. Each book also includes a timeline; glossaries; a Learn More About section highlighting related books and Internet sources; and a general index.

Review(s): Notable for its excellent photos, this book organizes and presents a great deal of knowledge in a logical manner. Particularly good are the explanations of techniques and the interplay of illustrations with informative captions, sidebars, and text. In addition to the many beautifully reproduced photos of artworks and architectural sites, several precise drawings with color washes show what can no longer be photographed.
